Crate chair Outdoor

In 1934, Rietveld made the first furniture from ‘crate wood’. Crate wood is a packaging material that he recycled in this manner. His ideology that beauty should be accessible to everyone, and that simplicity is a characteristic of what is true, was given form in the shape of the crate furniture.

This chair is originally designed by Rietveld as outdoor furniture. The chair is made of untreated Louro Gamela wood, also known as Wana. This is a FSC-certified Brazilian type of wood, the colour of which variable, according to the distinctively tinted part of the tree it comes from. Ultimately, the colour will become grey through weathering. The construction is indelibly glued and strengthened with stainless steel bolts and screws. Plastic runners are mounted undernearh the legs, to prevent the chair from coming in direct contact with a wet floor.

Every piece of furniture is numbered, has a matching certificate and contains a chip.
