Crate chair Indoor
In 1934, Rietveld made the first crate furniture from ‘crate wood’. Crate wood is a packaging material that he recycled in this manner. In the economic crisis of the 1930’s, people wasted nothing! Revolutionary for its time: the crate chair was sold as a kit and is available in various colours. In its present manufacture, high-quality beech is chosen.
Rietveld himself said: “Construction of the crates uses an ‘unconstrained carpentry method’ that is to the point, strong and inoffensive. The equal width of the wood and the open joints give a restful look.” His ideology that beauty should be accessible to everyone and that simplicity is a characteristic of what is true was given form in the shape of this crate chair.
Every piece of furniture is numbered, has a matching certificate and contains a chip.
